Alaska Vacations
on the Kenai Peninsula of Alaska

The Kenai Peninsula with it's beautiful lakes and world famous Kenai River is located in Southcentral Alaska, only a short scenic drive from Anchorage. The peninsula separates Prince William Sound and Cook Inlet. The end of the road system in North America occurs at Homer, Alaska at the tip of the Kenai Peninsula. Rivers include the Kenai River, famous for its huge salmon population and world class fishing lodges, as well as the Russian River, the Kasilof River, the Ninilchik River and the Anchor River. Kachemak Bay, a small inlet off the larger Cook Inlet, extends into the peninsula's southwest end, much of which is part of Kachemak Bay State Park.

The below is a listing of some of the many outdoor activities that can be enjoyed while staying on the Kenai Peninsula with, of course, particular emphasis on everyone's favorite outdoor activity - FISHING!

Guided or unguided salmon fishing
Guided or unguided rainbow trout and dolly varden fishing
Guided halibut fishing
Whale and Marine mammal viewing
Birding
Wildlife viewing -moose, bear, sheep,
Canoeing
Photography
Rafting
Clamming
Hiking
Eco-tours

Some of the larger towns on the Kenai Peninsula are Seward on the coast of the Gulf of Alaska, Soldotna and Kenai which are in the approximate middle of the peninsula with the nearby smaller towns of Sterling and Kasilof. Further down down and on the end of the driveable road system on the peninsula at Katchimak Bay is Homer.

The Kenai is home to some of the best road accessible sport fishing in Alaska, although many lodges also offer fly out fishing and backcountry tours by bush plane. Between Anchorage and Homer (about an 8 hour drive) there are too many opportunities for adventure to mention along with worldclass, outdoor oriented, real Alaskan lodges and resorts.

For a secluded log cabin with all modern conveniences on the banks of the world famous Kenai River, we suggest looking at the Kenai River Cabins at Sterling.

For other areas of Alaska, we recommend:

Alaskan Vacations in the Bristol Bay area of Southwest Alaska are highly recommended if you're looking for a more remote real wilderness vacation and of course the Southeast Alaskan towns of Ketchkan and Sitka are perenial cruise destinations and accessible only by ship or air. The interior of Alaska has Fairbanks and Denali National Park as the primary destination for many visitors.

For an Alaskan Outdoor Adventure
with all the comforts of a worldclass lodge or if you prefer roughing it in a tent camp, either way or somewhere in between, Alaska is the destination of choice for the adventurous.
